MATT AND MARY HANNAH JOHNSON
Husband and wife team based in New Bern, NC who lead worship at Garber Church. They have dedicated their lives to ministering to the living God through their music with a passion and zeal for the His presence.
About Us
Matt and Mary Hannah grew up in Virginia. They have three children (Elijah, Gideon, and Susannah), and when they are not making music they are spending time with their kids. Having met in college in Lynchburg VA, they married soon after graduation in 2007 and, after Matt earned his Masters at UNCG, they moved to New Bern where Matt serves as the worship minister of Garber UMC and Mary Hannah is a stay-at-home mom and homeschool teacher. Mary Hannah enjoys singing a wide range of styles of music from opera to jazz, and Matt plays a wide variety of musical instruments and enjoys composing and arranging. They stay active in the life of the church at Garber and participate in various ecumenical ministries and events (including the New Bern BURN 24/7 worship community). In their free-time they enjoy reading, games, theater, as well as cooking good foods and sharing meals between friends and family. Their musical tastes are widely varied, but their favorite artists include the Gray Havens, The Gettys, I Am They, All Sons & Daughters, Ghost Ship, People & Songs, and Rend Collective.

Ministries at Garber​

Matt and Mary Hannah Johnson are active in the worship leadership in the congregation at Garber UMC in New Bern NC. Matt is the Director of Music and Worship Arts, leading the praise team, choirs, and instrumental ensembles within the local body of Christ. With a skilled team of volunteers and paid staff, they offer up worship at three different Sunday morning services weekly and at various times during the week. In addition to leading music, Matt also directs and produces dramas and musicals periodically and oversees visual designs of the worship spaces and series graphics and videos.
